Gender identity is a personal, internal perception and the gender someone identifies with may not match the sex recorded at birth, as in the case of a person who is trans. An individual may see themselves as a man, a woman, as having no gender, or as having a non-binary gender—where people identify as somewhere on a spectrum between male and female. People have the right to self-identify, and those who reject the binary tick boxes may describe themselves as non-binary or genderqueer.

Trans and Gender Identity Awareness training is a workplace training program focused on raising understanding and awareness of transgender and gender-diverse identities and experiences.

The training focuses on educating individuals and teams on appropriate terminology, recognising transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals, and providing resources to help employers create a safe and inclusive working environment for all.

The training may also include information on unconscious bias and how that can impact interactions with transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals.
