New research from the Young Women's Trust has shown that just 22% of MPs believe that apprenticeship pay of £3.50 per hour is enough to live on, and only 45% would encourage someone to take on a job that paid that amount. Apprentices agree, with 42% spending more on their apprenticeship than they earn from it. Half of all apprentices struggle to over basic living costs and transport, and 75% of young people were put off doing an apprenticeship because it wasn't seen as financially viable.
