Why I can’t wait for this year’s TIDE benchmark

In this blog, enei's Head of DEI Services, Natalie Jones, introduces the enhanced TIDE tool, helping organisations assess and improve their workplace culture.

Image describe result The image is a painting depicting a beach scene. Rolling ocean waves, rendered with visible brushstrokes, crash onto a sandy shore. The word "TIDE" is written in the sand, with two starfish visible nearby. The overall style is vibrant and evokes a feeling of serenity and the power of nature.

I joined enei in February 2024 as the Head of DEI Services, and one of the first projects I had the privilege to work on was revising and refreshing our self-assessment evaluation and benchmarking tool: TIDE (Talent Inclusion and Diversity Evaluation).

For several years, enei has been supporting our members in measuring their approach and progress on diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) through TIDE, helping organisations understand and develop their diversity practices to embed and sustain an inclusive workplace culture.

With DEI practices always evolving and our understanding of how to build inclusive cultures constantly expanding, we wanted to ensure that TIDE evolves with them, to bring the most value to our members and to support their continuing inclusion journeys.

Following a fantastic collaborative effort and building on the foundation of the existing TIDE framework, in October 2024, we launched the refreshed TIDE questionnaire. Our enhanced version covers every aspect of workplace DEI, including new sections focused on wellbeing, belonging, values, inclusive leadership, and employee voice and engagement. It is a powerful tool, providing members with a holistic view and understanding of DEI, that goes beyond compliance to consider all the factors that drive meaningful and sustainable culture change.

My favourite thing about TIDE is whether you’re just starting out on your DEI journey or have already made significant progress, your TIDE self-assessment will provide valuable insights to help you track your progress and prioritise actions to make a difference across the entire employee lifecycle. Upon completion of your TIDE submission, you’ll receive an instant TIDE report providing you with an overall score and letting you know what level your organisation is performing at on our Inclusion Roadmap from “discovery”, “strategy”, “implement”, “embed”, and “sustain”.

You will also see a breakdown of your performance in each of the ten sections of TIDE and your top three highest areas of performance and lowest scoring areas to immediately help you visualise where you need to focus your efforts to build on and improve your workplace culture.

And I haven’t yet mentioned the best thing: Our enhanced questionnaire was launched on a new platform with improved functionality for this year’s cycle. This platform allows you to edit and resubmit your TIDE entry as many times as you wish before the submission deadline of 31 May. We wanted to give our members the power to track their continuous improvements and strive to submit the best possible results to be entered into our annual benchmark.

Therefore, my top tip is to enter your TIDE submission early this year to familiarise yourself with the new sections and questions. This will give your organisation the best opportunity to improve its score and be in with a chance of winning a TIDE award in 2025.

I can’t wait to see the results of this year’s benchmark and to find out more about the fantastic work our members are doing to enhance their diversity, equality, and inclusion practices. I encourage you all to explore TIDE today and see how you can take the next step in building your inclusive workplace culture.
