Recruitment and Social Media Research - 2018

In the past few years it has become commonplace for recruiters to reference Social Media profiles of candidates during the recruitment process. While Social Media provides opportunities for candidates to promote themselves through Social Media there are also risks of introducing conscious and unconscious bias into the recruitment process.

Our research will explore:

  • How and when Social Media profiles and activity are referenced in the recruitment process and contribute to the decision making process
  • The opportunities and challenges arising from the use of Social Media in the recruitment process
  • How Social Media can affect bias in recruitment decision
  • The opportunities and challenges for diversity and inclusion in the use of Social Media in the recruitment process
  • What guidance enei can provide Members in the best practice use of Social Media in recruitment

Our methodology will include:

  • A literature search
  • Survey of actual and potential recruitment candidates about expectations of use of social media in recruitment
  • Survey and consultation with recruitment decision makers about the use of social media in recruitment
  • Observed trials of people in different recruitment roles (e.g. internal and external) viewing fictitious applications and social media information to identify influence of social media

The results of these analyses will be used to test a number of hypotheses concerning the opportunities and challenges for diversity and inclusion in the use of Social Media in the recruitment process.

To support the research enei are seeking sponsors, who may or may not choose to use their own internal recruitment team and/or external recruiters to complete the observer trials.

Research sponsors who choose to participate in the observed trials will also receive a bespoke research report containing the research findings of their organisation with ranked anonymised comparisons with practices of other participating organisations

As a research sponsor, you will be entitled to:

  • Inclusion of Company Logo and website link on the executive summary and research results report
  • Display corporate branding alongside enei on all reports and best practice guidance documents published which are linked to the research
  • A mention in all press reports published by enei in respect of the research
  • Headline opportunity to present at the launch of the research.
