Regional Disability Roundtable

  • 18th July 2019
  • 10:00 - 13:30
  • Derbyshire Fire & Rescue HQ, Butterley Hall, Ripley DE5 3RS

There are a billion people worldwide with a disability. In the UK, there are seven million people of working age with a disability or long-term health condition and yet only around half of them are in work. This represents a huge pool of untapped talent which businesses can’t afford to ignore, particularly in view of the ageing population and the likelihood that a greater proportion of the workforce will develop a health condition or disability.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue have kindly agreed to host a regional disability roundtable on Thursday 18 July 2019, which is open to all enei members and non members for free. The session will be held at Derbyshire’s amazing training facility in Ripley and would cover:-

• Welcome from CFO at Derbyshire F&R - Terry McDermott
• Derbyshire Fire & Rescue – case study – disability and community engagement – Lukasz Gadza, Inclusion Officer
• Clydesdale & Yorkshire Bank – case study - disability – Ian Baldwin, Learning & Development Practitioner

  • Headtorch - interactive L&D on supportive conversations about mental health at work - Amy McDonald, Founder & CEO Headtorch
    • “What steps can I take to attract, recruit, retain and develop those with disabilities in the workplace?” – Becky Brooks, Member Engagement Manager, enei
    • Sharing of best practice/discussion groups – Becky Brooks/all
    • Introduction to MidlandsAbility – Becky Brooks
    • Agreement of next steps/next date – Becky Brooks
    • Lunch and networking

Led by Becky Brooks, Member Engagement Manger, this regional disability roundtable will enable you to clearly understand, from leaders in this area, what steps you can take to attract, recruit, develop and retain those with disabilities in the workplace, and also working with your local community. It will also give you the opportunity to discuss how to take back these learnings to your own organisation.

Who Should Attend?

Roundtable will be open to all Members. Target audience would be D&I professionals, recruiters, trainers, anyone with an interest in disability in the workplace. NB - It is extremely useful for Members who are leaders in this area to share their experiences and coach others.
