Guest Webinar with Mermaids: Understanding gender identity

Overview: 
On International Pronouns Day enei have teamed up with Mermaids to deliver an informative webinar exploring gender identity. Mermaids will present an overview of their work, look at concepts and terminology around gender identity, the challenges facing trans and non-binary young people and adults, as well how individuals can step up to support within organisations and as individuals.

 

Objectives:

  • Understand gender identity and gender expression
  • Understand the importance of using correct pronouns and what they are
  • Learn some positive/practical steps to Trans inclusion (for professionals)

 

About Mermaids:

Mermaids is a UK-wide charity working to support transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse children, young people, their families and the professionals who support them. Their goal is to create a world where gender-diverse children and young people can be themselves and thrive.
 
The charity's services include a helpline, web chat and online forums for parents and young people, as well as face to face meet-ups for peer support. They also provide training into organisations and advocate for a fairer society for trans young people.


Speaker:

Matt Moore (he/him) is Corporate Fundraising Manager at Mermaids. He started working in the LGBT+ charity sector at Stonewall in 2016 where he advised global retail, travel and FMCG organisations on their inclusion and diversity practices, before moving on to manage major partnerships including Aviva and Absolut Vodka. 

At Mermaids he leads all corporate engagement for the charity, including their 2020 partnership with Starbucks UK for their winning Channel 4 Diversity in Advertising campaign - #WhatsYourName. As well as raising vital funds he works closely with organisations to help them create inclusive environments for trans, non-binary and gender diverse young people.
