Gig Economy Under Threat

UK courier firm CitySprint is the latest business to lose a tribunal case regarding the employment status of their couriers. Although the ruling only applies to the one courier who brought the case (unlike the recent Uber action which applies to all UK drivers), the verdict that couriers are workers, not self employed, is likely to encourage wider action. Further actions will be brought against Addison Lee, eCourier and Excel in the spring, and Uber is expected to appeal the recent verdict against them.
