Diversity Within Asset Management & Insurance - 15 September, London

The asset management and insurance industry gathered on the 15th of September to discuss diversity and inclusion in their sector. The event organised by enei and Ocean focussed on the practical actions that can be taken to promote inclusion.

Irshaad Ahmed, Head of Institutional Europe, Allianz Global Investors, presented the Diversity Project that will be launched on the 8th of November. He explained that the objective of the project is to increase industry diversity in all dimensions by making it more accessible for people from different backgrounds.

Hans Georgeson, Managing Director, Architas, presented the D&I Impact from a Business Perspective. He invited participant to ask themselves: “Would you like your daughter to work in an environment like this? What does it says about the business?”

Annette Andrews, Group HR Director, Lloyd’s of London, shared with the audience her personal experience and her views on unconscious bias in the insurance industry, She stressed that the culture in the sector needs to change, with leaders needing to influence the workplace as role models & educate colleagues at an early point in their careers.

Liz Bingham, Managing Partner, EY, presented the business transformation case for diversity. She explained that there is a direct link between serial innovation and growth. This is why organisations need to create a safe space for people to share ideas and encourage better decisions. Liz explained that EY research demonstrated a correlation between the people in the organisation and the quality of the company's brand externally. That correlation is directly reflected in the organisation's revenues.
